Hi. My husband was diagnosed with ALS and will probably not be able to work after this school year. Does anyone know anything about ALS and getting disability payments? What percent of income is it? I know absolutely n-o-t-h-i-n-g about disability, so speak in novice language, please. :) I am afraid we will lose our house/have to move without my husband's income. What can we do? Thank you for your help.

Hi Nancy. This website is Randy's ALS Manual and about halfway down the page it goes into Social Security and disability issues. It's a good place to start. Welcome to the forum and sorry about your husband's condition.

Hi Nancy,
I do not live in CA, but I am a teacher and have been approved for disability at 66% of my current pay. Please encourage your husband to check with his union. My union people took wonderful care of me as did the board of ed. God Bless you.
