View Full Version : Chair Lift problems?

We had a chair lift (a chair that goes up and down steps) donated for use by my mother dx ALS. My son and husband unassembled and re-installed the chair. After a few weeks, it has begun to stop on its way up the stair. Going down is fine. After hitting the switch a few times, it will continue up.

Biggest concern is dealer is quite a ways away and charges a lot just for travel. Dealer said they may not have parts, might have to make several trips. My husband, who is pretty handy, has tested all the easy stuff and thinks it could be in the circuit board or motor. I hate to invest a lot of money in repairs if it starts to run closer to cost of new one.

My parents live in a tri-level condo with mortgage. The only bathrooms and bedroom space are downstairs. Renovations to main level are not viable. This could make a difference in how fast we need to make decisions regarding where she is going to live. Money is tight and I don't want to waste $500-$1000 that I will need for something else.

Thanks in advance for any help. I am still pretty overwhelmed with all this and visit the site several times daily. Although I don't participate, it is comforting to be part of the group. Thanks.

Have you checked the limit switchs, one may be loose or on have a loose wire. Howdy

It sounds like something simple, perhaps a defective switch. I suggest a good local electrician or appliance specialist might be able to diagnose it.
