Does anyone have any experience with ALS impacting both sides of the body in the same place at the same time?

I am in the process of trying to get a diagnosis, and for me I have weakness and atrophy in my little finger and especially the one next to it on both hands. Is this typical?

Thanks for your help.

Nicole

Hi Nicole -

My ALS progression to date has not been symetrical. Noticeable symptoms (weakness then atrophy) started in my right hand and no other symptoms appeared until now, two years, later when my left and right lower leg have become involved. Thus, my recent diagnosis.

What I gather from this site is that peoples' progressions are all fairly unique. It is hard to compare yourself to others to anticipate what your diagnosis may be. Hang in there with the docs.

Nice to meet you.

Liz

My hands went bad at about the same time but my right being stronger and a bit more muscular didn't look as bad as the left. AL.
