Hi I believe Benign ALS (http://www.alsforums.com/definitions/benign-als.html) is called this because it is not fatal. There is no weakness just cramping. Some people have developed ALS in later years. Keep a check . Came accross this recently in my travels on the internet. Good Luck. My Best to you Beebe
