Finding this site w/ your mixture of information & humor has meant the world to me. The ALS Dr. will not take time( he walks out on 2nd. question ) w/ me. I tried the MD chat site once & never went back. Although I only visited this site twice before, it is my most positive experience concerning this disease. Thanks for being here for us.

Hi Kath. Glad we can help. Thanks to all for the wishes. I didn't think that many people looked at the calendar and anyone can post their birthdays or whatever there. Just another service of ALS Forums. The people Forum. We have 700 members now but not all post but they are spread all around the world. We are all in this together. It's not fun but we can try to have some. Fun birthday for 57. Nice dinner out with the family and a few glasses of Merlot and a couple of Drambuie's at home later . Thanks Friends for the wishes.
MarciaA 06-22-2006, 11:35 AM Happy belated birthday, Al!!

Hey Al,
Happy belated, B- Day. I haven't been having a real good week so i'm running alittle behind on my reading the posts and threads. Glad to hear your day was nice. I read this response of yours and i now have a question for you ,, if ya don't mind. I think i read that you have a feeding tube,, correct? If so where is yours and also ,, is it possible to ( eat normal ) in a restaurant with one. Sorry if thats a stupid question,, but i may be looking at getting one before too long and i am trying to find out alittle about it.
Thanks for any help you or anyone else out there on the forum can give me.
Love and Prayers
Marlo
Granny 06-23-2006, 08:36 PM Hi Marlo,
I don't think Al has a feeding tube, so I will try to answer your question.
A feeding tube does not mean that you can't eat by mouth if you can still chew and swallow ok. Whatever you could do before the tube, you can still do after as far as eating goes. I have Bulbar ALS and now my throat, jaw, tongue muscles are gone, so I can only eat a few soft things like puddings, so I use the tube for the bulk of my nurtition. But, when I first got my tube, I only used it for some medications, and ate a regular diet by mouth.
The tube is placed in the stomach, mine is to the left of my navel, up about four incles or so. You get very used to it, and don't even feel it is there.
Hope this helps, yours was not a stupid question-there is no such thing here!
Hugs and prayers,
Leah
TBear 06-23-2006, 11:44 PM Sorry I missed it Al... Happy Birthday... yet another reason to drink some good wine. I just received my tickets for the Jays Game. The professor and I are in section 232. I hope to see you there... I'll be the one with the beer.
T.
Hi Marlo and Leah. I don't have a feeding tube as yet and I plan on getting a funnel for wine instead of the feeding tube. I figure there is good nourishment in grapes (red wine) and the canada food guide recommends at least 5 to 10 servings of fruit and veggies a day so red wine qualifies as far as I'm concerned. Now all I have to do is find a brocoli or cauliflower wine.
