Or as some articles read, 1 in 10 million! PLS is rare, in any case.

Someone approached me at church on Sunday and asked if I didn't mind telling her what my illness is called. I told her it is PLS, the better half of ALS. She asked if I had any amalgam fillings ever put on my teeth. She had read something to the effect that it was one of the things that could cause ALS.

I wouldn't know amalgam from porcelain from epoxy or tinsel! I think I'll just extract all of my teeth and become a real "gumby"!

Removing all silver mercury based fillings has not done a thing for the PALS online but take their money. :[ Keep those pearly whites!
Was the woman attempting to be supportive? I hope that you gave her the statistics and how there is NO known cause and NO known cure and that we need more advocates and public awareness-teach her!! Hey, next Sunday give her a print out of the thread that talks about how it didn't work for the online PALS and the information on ALS Guardian Angels, ALSA and MDA. :] hugs, Kay Marie

I, also, have people come up to me at work occasionally and timidly ask what I have. I'm only too glad to tell them and put them at ease. (They could speculate anything.) And a typical response is they don't see HOW I manage to live with this and that they don't think THEY could do it if it happened to them! I tell them they would do just as I would. But I also tell them God helps me! That IS the difference for me!

Guys, I did the filling thing, although did not believe it would help.. I only had a few finnnings, so thought what the heck. Did not change a thing..Wish I could say it helped, but not so.

I bet the amalgam fillings rumors were started by dentists looking for more patients. It's the best thing for the dental business since refined sugar came along!
