FWIW, I feel that small patient-driven projects - such as the Project MinE and SciOpen, will probably produce more useful results for the same money. They tend to focus on research and not waste on administration.
I am donating To my clinic to provide assistive technology to ALS patients. I'm also allowing them to spend it on clinical trials. I think were way off from anything helpful. The heterogeneity of this group is the big problem. So I figured I'd help patients rather than research. Just my take on it.
