a new technology being developed ALS patients might value

Caan't really see this being of much use to an ALS patient.

Some have suggested it might be interesting because the screen image is always right before the eyes . . . thus no matter how one might wish to posture themselves they would still have the screen clearly available to them. Of course ALS patients encounter more trouble with input devices . . . some have suggested integration of this with 'eyegaze' type technology would be great.

I actually see this as potentially very useful for PALS. There is already eyetracking built into eyeglass frames being developed. Adding this ability would make the system more complete, portable to different hardware platforms, and with peripheral shading much more resistant to infrared pollution while outdoors (a critical weakness of current eyegaze systems).
