My PALS received this email from the Clinical Research Coordinator at the UVA Dept. of Neurology:
I heard you were interested in ALS trials.
We have a trial enrolling now. To be eligible, you must
have had ALS symptoms less than 24 months, no diabetes or
heart problems. Also you will need to be able to swallow a
pill, and not on a ventilator. Vital Capacity of 70% or
higher. Be willing to come to all the appointments, which
would be 12 over a 10 month period. Weekly at first, to
insure tolerability, then every other week, then monthly.
The drug is R+Pramipexole. There is a 1/4 chance of
placebo for 4 of the 10 months the other 3/4 will either be
on 300mg, 150mg, or 50mg. Everyone will have 1 month on
placebo.
I will attach our consent for you to look over and get more
specifics.

My PALS is not planning on participating since the frequent trips are too tiring and the pill swallowing is problematic.
Take care,
Jane
