Default Re: New gene therapy halts 2 boys' rare brain disease

Wow, that is just amazing!!! I have high hopes for a cure and I'm so glad I made the decision to bank our baby's cord blood. I really wish we would have done it with our first child but ALS hadn't reared its ugly head in over a generation and I had no idea it could be hereditary. Maybe both of my boys can use the same banking if needed someday?

I feel so blessed to live in the age of modern medicine. While ALS is certainly no walk in the park in 2009, mom and I used to talk about how awful it must have been for our family members two generations ago who didn't have suction machines, pegs, cough assist, medications..... I know without the advances and capabilities of modern medicine our son would not have lived past a couple days old. For that I am so thankful to be forunate enough to live in the age we do.
