So,

I finally got my 2nd EMG today and it showed abnormality in my forearm and triceps (bicep and hand was fine) in my left arm. My first EMG, which was conducted three weeks ago was perfectly normal (shows how subjective this whole thing is). Well anyways, the neuro said that he is leaning towards a pinch nerve at this point rather than ALS because with ALS, I would have also showed abnormalities in my bicep. I don't know what to believe anymore but all I know is that I have the following symptoms.

1. Bodywide twitching
2. Cramps
3. Tremors
4. Left hand seems to be thinner (less meat)
5. Shortness of breath that comes and goes
6. Neck stiffness

Ever since I noticed the weakness last month, it hasn't gotten worse so that's good.

Wright or anybody else, what is your take on this?

Hi Ama--

Could you give us some more detail on what was abnormal about the EMG? Do you have a report that lists specifics?

Best,

Andy

He tested my left hand, forearm, bicep, tricep, and neck. My left hand, bicep, and neck were all fine. My forearm and tricep were abnormal and he said that since my bicep and hand were perfectly fine, it's very likely that there's a pinch nerve in the C6-C7 region of my spine which is causing the weakness in the arm. If it were ALS, I should have had abnormalities in my hand (since there is slight atrophy there) and also my bicep.

Does this make sense?

He wasn't 100% confident but said that if he was a betting man, he'd put his money on pinch nerve. He is a nueromuscular specialist by the way.

Could anxiety explain the twitching, cramping, tremors that I'm also experiencing in both arms?

And now you are saying Possible ALS on another post, come on!
Your neuro did not say that, why would you say they did. a abnormal emg does not mean als. and you did not even have a clinical exam that pointed toward als...please get a grip.. you are going to the gym, another thing that surely points AWAY from ALS.

What else can be a good news than a nueromuscular specialist betting against ALS for you. I believe you need a phsycartist to make you believe the fact. It seems that you are one of those computor adictics who read medical stuff and start finding symptoms in their own body. I told you don't do this to yourself as it is good for nothing. Trust your doc, pray if you are a believer and follow the instruction of you doc. This is as simple as that.

You are obviously new to the board and, in particular, to this part of the board. Welcome!

Just don't get too frustrated when some of these folks won't listen to you.

Thanks trfogey. You are right. I was a bit frustrated. I had a feeling as if ama wants to believe suffering from als. I know how it effects ones life with this believe. ama is only 22 or 23 as was indicated in the earlier posts on the forum It hurts to see such a young person get cought in this believe and thoughts. I just wanted to ask not to stick to own diagonsis and trust the doc.
