Hi I’m brand new to the board I’m a 52 year old male, and have just one question. I have for the past two months experienced body twitches all over, some in my thighs, calves tricep, rib, buttocks and eyelid . I also had one episode upon waking in the morning kinda half way between awake and sleep my hand suddenly jered upward. It did this just once and not again since.
I have been seen by 3 pc doctors for the twitches who all felt it was stress and overexertion related. I should mention I do workout with heavy weights 4-5 days a week and play hockey 1-2 days a week.
All blood work and strength tests done by the pc docs were normal. I also saw my psychiatrist regarding these issues and she also felt very strongly that this was all stress related. I was diagnosed with panic/ anxiety disorder, ocd and hypercondria.
I ask if any of this sounds like ALS and I ask with the greatest respect to all of you.
Thank you so very much

No, it does not.

Twitching and even occasional jerks (esp. as you wake up) are very common. Worrying about them is what does the damage.

With hockey and lifting, you clearly aren't any weaker than usual. But sometimes twitching can relate to inadequate stretching, overuse injuries, etc. It might be worth asking a sports trainer to vet your current regimen, and a sports nutritionist to opine on your diet and hydration.

If you have been with your psychiatrist for a while and you feel more is possible in re your mental health, it is never wrong to seek a second opinion. The number of anxiety disorders with which you have been diagnosed certainly calls for periodic re-evaluation.

Best,
Laurie

Thank you s much Laurie for taking the time to respond to my post. I will absolutely take your advise regarding my current mental health as well as getting the opinion of a sports nutrition specialist.
I realize I have been diagnosed with an array of mental health conditions but I believe a lot of this stems from my childhood whic unfortunately invoked mental , physical and sexual abuse. I have been und psychiatric care for well over 20 years and each day is always a challenge.
Again I thank you for your prompt and thoughtful advise
