Hi all,
First of all I would like to say sorry for posting this in here. Just don’t have many people to talk to and would like some helpful information.
I am a 21 year old female. My mother was diagnosed with ALS in 2013 she was 52 years old. I was mums primary caregiver. It all started in her foot, then her arms and finally her voice and lungs started to fail. Mum lived about 2.5 years with the disease. We both stayed extremely hopeful and throughout mums journey we adapted and she still enjoyed her life to the fullest.
There is no other family history of the disease as I know of. However the last month I had been experiencing some strange symptoms.
All started with some perceived weakness in my left hand and arm however I can still lift the same amount everything just feels heavier in my left hand. I feel like my arm gets quite fatigued after little use and I can feel a burning sensation. About a week later I experienced a tight feeling in my calf followed by occasional muscle twitches in that area.
I went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago he did all the strength tests etc. but when he tested my reflexes my right leg kept kicking out way further than my left. He said at the present moment i don’t have any clear symptoms.
2 weeks on and I’m still experiencing these symptoms. I do have anxiety not sure if it could all be in my head. I’m torn on whether to get a second opinion. I asked the doctor a lot of questions about my likelihood of getting it he didn’t seem to have a lot of knowledge regarding the disease.
I’m very scared and lacking the knowledge with the hereditary side of things.
Does this sound like als?
