I was just diagnosed with Progressive Bulbar Palsy about a month ago. Was told by the ALS Clinic that my limbs were good and might remain that way for another year or two. Within this last month, though, I seem to have more of a problem breathing. This is more when I try to breathe through my nose than with my mouth open. Is there a test for breathing that I can anticipate when I return to UCSF In April? No one mentioned that as a possibility, although I do read on this forum that many people are using a BiPap. This has not been suggested or even mentioned.. thanks for the help.

Hi, Idaho,

You should have a pulmonary function test to evaluate your breathing. Definitely tell your doctor about your breathing issues and request this test. The results of this test should indicate whether you should be on bipap.

Make sure you get a complete pulmonary function test that includes evaluating your breathing muscles as well as everything else.
