Oh one more thing, there is absolutely no reason she cannot continue to go on the volunteer trip as long as she is able. While you may not be able to stay out with the men all day, you can certainly go for the socialization part of the trip, and you might surprise yourself on how helpful people are and how much you actually get to do.
