The first thing ANY neuro worth his/her salt would do IF they expected ALS is send you to neuromuscular specialist, even after an EMG. My neuro did an EMG and sent me to Mayo Clinic. Not a doctor in the world would diagnose ALS without an EMG.

Good luck. I hope your EMG is clean, or at least rules out ALS, so they can start figuring out what is going on.

I understand and empathize with your anxiety.

You asked for "suggestions as what this could be, if not ALS."

Arian, we know ALS pretty well, but we're not doctors, so we would be dangerously foolish if we tried to diagnose someone over the Internet. If you must get the opinions of others on the Internet, you'd have to do it somewhere else.

And you said, "The symptoms don't seem to point anywhere else"

No, I'm really sure your symptoms point AWAY from ALS, and the more you post, the more we see that it is not ALS.

I don't want to be specific, writing down here what symptoms you need to have to be called ALS, because there are hypochondriacs lurking here who would suddenly get all those symptoms.

If you don't have a regular family physician, I highly recommend it. Specialists specialize. A neurologist knows only neurology. The general practice medical doctor is trained to know how to run the investigation and coordinate between the different kinds of specialists.

"I also hate that I am about 20-30 years under the average age of onset"

Geeze... would it make happy if you were of the average age?

"At this point I'm just in venting mode,"

This is not vent Forum.

There is nothing more you can post until you have an EMG and post a copy of the summary/conclusion.

Hello all,

Sorry for the late reply, the EMG appointment got pushed back. I though I would post to help someone in the future with the information here.

My EMG came back clean and normal, and I do not have ALS. However I am still experiencing some symptoms. Just wanted to give some closure to the thread.

Good news! I hope you can continue working with your doctor to track down the cause of your symptoms. I am very glad ALS has been ruled out for you.

Thanks for your kind words, and I hope this thread is able to help someone else.
