I do not understand the viagra reference. Do you mean it was originally in trials for hypertension and its current indication was an incidental finding?

Re the report. It is three patients. Interesting yes. However there are many examples of things that seemed hopeful in small samples ( some much larger than this and even controlled trials) that were found either not helpful or actually harmful. For antibiotics there have been trials of 2 other antibiotics though not Penicillin. There has been a good amount of interest in steroids as a treatment and anecdotal reports of improvement- and of worsening. Without a controlled trial I would not be pursuing this personally
 
people may not know what "off label " use of drugs is.
therefore my viagra remark. Forget it.

I studied this article and all the references I could find. It’s the only chance for a stop in the progression of the illness and even a rectification of the handicaps seems possible. My relative is ill with ALS since one year; he seems to have a slow progression. He will take decision in the next days.
