Hello!

3 weeks ago the tip of my tongue began to twitch. Im so afraid. Had a long tongue EMG in November , both side of tongue it was totally clean. 3 days ago the doctor made a very short EMG of the left side on my tongue , but i am twichting at the right side. Doesnt matter? He also made EMG of Maseter and neck.Does bulbar patients feel their tongue twichtes ? Its only a small place in the tip, not all over!

Please help me! Only 7 weeks until my due date and i am a wrack :(

You were told before to not post here unless your emg showed ALS. It does NOT! This was your 8th emg, right? You know you don't have ALS. 17 doctors, 2 who are ALS specialists have told you this. You must get help with your anxiety. Anxiety is your debilitating condition and, unlike ALS, it can be treated.

Do not post here anymore, it isn't good for your emotional state, nor ours for that matter. There is nothing else to say about the matter.
Tracy

But please can you tell me if ALS patients feel their tongue twichtes ?

My tongue has been twitching for over a year... not really twitching... more like wriggling. Like worms under the skin.
The only reason I know that it doing this is because I see it in the mirror. I cannot feel it moving.
If your emg's have been clear and nothing has progressed (als is a 'progressive'disease), why are you still afraid?

Please trust your doctors; enjoy your blessings; enjoy your healthy new baby.

Thank you Preacherman. Did it look like worms from the beginning on? Sorry my englisch is very bad. So not just one place twichtes, its the whole tongue?

Yes, from the first time I ever really checked; and it was all over, not just in one spot.

Do you have bulbar? Thank you VERY much!

Dr's have never really been specific... I do have bulbar symptoms: the tongue thing, some emotional labiality, chewing and swallowing issues...
More significant, though, are the other symptoms; like weakness in trunk muscles, hips, legs, feet... so I would not call it 'bulbar specific'.

I am so sorry for you :( hope your doing fine?

Was your EMG dirty from the start?

Thank you, I am doing fine.

Yes, the EMG was bad from the beginning.

Can't say if it would have been clean if I had had it done years before, but I have never had a 'clean' one.
I will say that when I had the first one my only real concerning physical symptoms were my left ankle and left thumb. The EMG, however, showed denervation, fasciculation potentials, etc.. on almost all of the places that they tested... most of these places had no noticeable symptoms at all other than, perhaps some weakness.

The second EMG (about three months later) was worse than the first. On the second they did places like my tongue, neck, jaw directly under my tongue.... wasn't fun. This showed denervation, etc in most all points they checked....even then, the only symptoms in these areas were a slight swallowing problem and the Tongue fasciculation.

Note... when I say 'noticeable symptoms' I mean noticed by me.
The neuro exam had shown several additional issues, such as a lack of reflexes on the left side and kind of brisk reflexes on the right; also some balance issues.
These things were suggestive, to them, of a neuropathy.

The EMG told the tale.

Ok, i had EMG in 24 muscles. Including tongue, jaw, face (around lips) and throat muscles. Did your EMG in neck and jaw also showed degeneration or just tongue? (Last question, i swear) you are so nice, Thank you a lot !

It's ok...

Denervation in tongue, neck and jaw..... as well as other places; shoulder, upper back near spine, etc. I don't have the report so I do not know the real names of the specific muscles but most of the places I didn't even know there was even a problem.

There was one they mentioned... Trapezius; EMG was 10 months ago and I am just now seeing any kind of weakness in that area. Same with neck.... also ten months later and my neck is just now starting to give me any trouble.

Really, if they checked 24 muscles and they were 'all clear', you can be most certain that you have nothing to fear...

Ok, so EMG would pick up problems before someone feels it, from what i understand now.
