I don't like to think of myself as paranoid but I feel like I might be. I have a pretty good sized dent in my hand. Not the palm but back of hand! It's at the base of my thumb and finger joint and I'm freaking out about it. I'm just curious as this is a symptom. I wish I could send a pic but I just don't know how....

Oh.my.god.

A dent led you to a terminal nerve disease?

Read the sticky titled READ BEFORE POSTING.

_Those_ are ALS symptoms.

Actually no. I looked up what causes dents which lead me to atrophy which then said ALS everywhere!!! So that's how I ended up here. I did read the stickies and didn't get any answer there. But thanks for being nice about it ....not

Sorry. To call it a long shot is an understatement

A dent is not atrophy.

Atrophy follows failure.

Go ask your doc.

But don't think ALS.

Mom, dents are in the eye of the beholder unless they're really atrophy (and in ALS, that keeps company with clinical weakness, which you don't have). It is normal to have visible differences between our 2 arms, legs or hands. These are often related to left or right handedness, minor issues like arthritis, how we drive, type, carry groceries (or kids), work out, etc. I just looked at my "mouse" hand and undeniably there is more of a "dent."

Best,
Laurie
