Hi there, I went to the Neuro and had a clean exam, had EMG full body, and face and tongue and everything is normal. I attributed my symptoms to anxiety. however my swallowing seems to be getting a little worse, I have a raspy voice with a lot of flem and food keeps getting stuck when swallowing and I have to wash down with water or do a couple extra swallows. My question is does a clean EMG mean no Bulbar and what could be causing my symptoms to be getting worse? I do not mean to offend anyone on here however I am just worried, I am also starting to get out of breath easier.

Mom, in this thread you asked Corwin his opinion on whether or not you have ALS. Please know that Corwin does not have experience with ALS, has been tested many times, and still does not have ALS.

This is good news. You are cleared of ALS.

I have no idea what is caused your swallowing and voice problems. You would have to see a doctor for that. I recommend a GP medical doctor.

There's a bit of misinformation out there re: umn and emg findings. EMG testing can indicate umn involvement- in conjunction with clinical observations. If a specialist with MND experience tests you, they will see it- and will follow up if there is ANYTHING they are concerned about. My diagnosis of umn Motor Neuron Disease was backed up with an emg that stated results were consistent with UMN involvement.

Those here on the ALS forum are not able to confirm for you anything based on forum posts, and are unable to give you what you need right now. Nor can anyone reassure here you if you are convinced you are suffering from ALS.

I wish you all the best in finding out what is causing your suffering. If you doubt your current doctor's experience, ask for a referral to a neuromuscular specialist who has experience with ALS.

I am comfortable with her diagnosis and have no weakness, was just wondering what else could be causing what's going on that's it.

As far as what else it could be goes we have no idea. The only thing we know is ALS, and we aren't doctors. Good luck finding what is going on. Enjoy watching baseball. Go Jays!
