David, the answer varies to my understanding. My pals would use it as requested then it became up to 4 times a day, then just morning and evening - now just before bed or as needed.
No one has mentioned a suction machine - to me they go hand in hand. Fought assist cycle, then suction, then repeat to 4 times.
Strongly recommend both plug in and battery powered machines. That way you can easily use in different rooms and take them with you when you go in car/Van. I got a folding, rolling cart in office section of Walmart and would take both machines, urinal, food, water when we had to travel to docs.
