Hello… My name is John Sherwood and I’m writing a novel entitled, 'Like No Other Time.' It is a story about intimacy and about half way through the principal character is diagnosed with ALS. I am looking for help: one or perhaps two experienced people who would be willing to volunteer to read parts of my draft manuscript that contain symptoms, limitations, and feelings about the diagnosis and progression.

Currently, I have reduced everything to three pages where physical symptoms and limitations are discussed, and I am seeking a review and suggestions. Your reactions to these pages would give us both an idea about what I have in mind… We could correspond by email or phone, or if you're local to the SF Bay Area, perhaps we could meet.

I’m 82, a retired academic (Michigan, Purdue and Harvard) in social psychology, and have written two previous novels, neither was commercial. Reviews are available on Amazon (John J. Sherwood): 'Intimacy: The Magic of Her Presence' and 'Purple Ferry.'

Many thanks for your consideration… john

John, I have some time to read. PM me if you like.

Hey there John, this isn't really the place for your book.
You've given your email, that should suffice from here on...

Good luck.

I agree, these people are terminally ill and I read the first paragraph and think you sound like our DIHALS with all these feelings ARGH. Sorry but you don't describe ALS and you shouldn't ask here. If Mike wants to email you that's all fine as it is off the board.

Please go elsewhere, our mods are not doing so well just now so we will have to tell you. To be honest I'm stunned you would post that here.

Mike hon, you should remember newbies can't PM ... ;)

I totally agree with Tillie!

Whooops. You're right. I'll escort him out. Sorry about that.

Take the private dance floor with my best wishes friend :)

JOHN, I answered your request in two emails. --Mike
