Although I am not new to this forum, I can see where it might be a bit intimidating to jump into one of the other social "off topic" threads.

My "vision" (ha ha, what a grand word) for this newest venue, is that those who haven't really had a chance to get to know others, whether because they are new, or just haven't felt ready to be "social" will find a place to feel welcome to just hang out here.

From time to time in the past on the forum, someone would ask what everyone did for a living, and it usually was the context of finding out if there is a connection to developing ALS.

But, here, in the Rec Hall, we want to know what everyone does, and what they're interested in, for purely communal purposes.

Talk, and laugh (or cry) about whatever you want. It doesn't have to have anything at all to do with ALS.

PALS, CALS and undiagnosed are welcome. (check any sniping or snarking at the door, you can pick your baggage up on your way out)

Refreshments are provided by the old timers here. So, let us know what you like to drink, snack on, and the type of music you'd prefer for the dance floor, We'll do our best to accomodate. 8)

What a great vision Rose.

I'm keen on travel, gardening, cooking, needle crafts such as cross stitch and what Americans call needlepoint. Don't get to travel much any more but did my fair share over the years and am still able to carry on with the other interests.

Thanks for the Rec Hall! Hope it catches on with the newcomers as well.

Thanks Rose. I like to sew...quilt...draw...paint..craft. doesn't matter if I throw it all away when I'm done. Its the process
that I like...getting lost in it.lol

Good thread Rose, I like to oil paint, plan on redoing some furniture, Got some glass panes to paint and play with.

Nice idea, Rose!

I like to travel as much as possible, sail, read, cook ... As for drinks, champagne is my fave but I'll settle for a rum and coke too. Music to dance to - 80s new wave and punk, hip hop, alt country, disco and any other good alternative stuff. Snacks: popcorn, salt and vinegar chips and pretty much anything salty and crunchy.

Im glad i found this place. I am not new- but have been gone for quite awhile, and I wasnt sure how to jump back in. Right now, i am trying to "find" myself. I am still stuck in grief so Im not really sure what I like to do. I can say that I LOVE music. And i love nature walks. Hopefully I will find out more about me and will be able to add to that list.

In a previous life, I was a police officer, then an Intermediate EMT for 20 years, finally a high school teacher. When the body started to go, I started teaching CNAs. Taught CPR for nearly 30 years.

Have always been a writer. Now, I write romance, as I'm partial to happy endings. As nothing much seems to stay working in my vody, O take side-jobs editing for other authors and do book formatting with the help of my daughter.

I spend too ,uh time here, lol, probably because I rarely leave the house anymore...and partly because there are so many great folks here.

Hey everyone, nice to see you over here! I used to love gardening, flea markets/yard sales, faux painting my house, redoing old furniture, etc... can't do that anymore... but I still have my critters (black dog, 2 cats, 2 birds, a bunny and a turtle) that are supposed to my kids, but I end up with anyway. Still working as a graphic designer, so try to stay busy on the computer.

Rose,

Thank you for this Meet & Greet. (though I would have preferred "lunch & learn"- Ha. (anything with food!)

I am a French Canadian and hail from a large, loving, and super loud family. (parents just marked 70 years of marriage)
Writing, painting (encaustic is fun), cooking, and reading are my usual activities. I am an avid reader. (thank you Amazon)
These sedentary hobbies have replaced marathon running, cycling, skiing, golfing, hiking. Ergo- I'm getting fatter!

Still love traveling and hope to continue as long (and as far) as possible. It's a big world and I love exploring it. LOVE people. Love dogs.
Love rainbows. Like casinos too.

Am a generally happy smiley person - and count my blessings. It's a very long list of blessings.
I'm so darned lucky.

Well, this is refreshing. In just a few posts I have learned lots about some of the people here. Good idea. In my previous life I worked for 20 years in Pathology/Clinical Medicine. I enjoy country pursuits and it was through this that I met my (2nd) husband, a head stalker/gamekeeper. Within a year I had swapped city life and found myself living in the Highlands checking our ducks droppings for vitamin deficiency..... Ten years later I can now fish and shoot with the best of them....:) I also enjoy writing, dog training, trekking with the hill ponies and having friends to stay for long weekend . Relaxing involves a good book/jigsaw and a glass of wine in front of a roaring fire.

What a great idea! I love to read, garden, sew and scrapbook when I'm home.... Travel ( done more in the last year than in my whole life) and spoil marvelous Maddie. I love good food and wine and love to cook...computer wise I like word games and keeping in touch with family and friends...

golly gee - I think my post went to moderation...(or I pressed the wrong button?)
Must have been all the talk about my hobbies - none of which are X rated- well those I listed aren't.
Ho Hum.

I am a retired RN--worked in emergency psychiatry most of my career. We had a little farm until a year ago with 5 horses. Had to sell a year ago and moved to a townhouse primarily because of hubby's CIDP. Horses were my life so it is a big adjustment. We have a big flower garden and I am a plant addict. I have tried various hobbies since moving. I am a Zumba drop out, a line dancing drop out, a tai chi drop out. However, I just started ukulele lessons and it is great fun. I also go water walking a couple of times a week. We will be horse sitting for friends in the Cariboo at mid month and they have 15 horses so it should be a wild time in the old corral as we are a bit rusty, and we will be on 80 acres with bears, wolves, cougars etc. I can hardly wait to load the SUV with horse apples and carrots and hit the road up to the Boo. Our two younger horses live there with our friends so it will be wonderful to hang with them again.

Howdy, well i used to be wonder women...........fulltime working single parent and gym/weight lifting fanatic.
I also was a competative long distance/cross country runner and like laurel i did a bit of tai chi.
I loved gardening ,did other peoples and was considering setting up my own buisness but sadly illness hit.........4yrs ago i had to leave my home and garden and move to a disability ground floor home.
I love arts and crafts,i did do embroidery but can't with my hands now........now i make cards, sew with my machine (made all my own roman blinds, curtains ect)and just starting to dabble in painting.
I love animals........have 2 cats,oscar/ginger tom aged 8 and daisy /tortie aged 4. My darling oliver died aged 13 ,nearly 5yrs ago now but he is still with me.....in the living room......his ashes that is.
laurel,always wanted to visit a ranch....with real hunky cowboys.......can i come.

Hi Everyone,
I work 30 hrs a week as a switchboard operator at our local hospital. Been married to my husband for 19 years now. I am a dog lover especially of Pugs. We have a male puggle who is probally around 2 or 3 named Skipper. I am not athletic at all and don't like to exercise except for walking. I like to read and enjoy books by Nicholas Sparks, Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts, and John Grishaam. I like all kinds of music but can't stand opera. Love to watch movies especially comedies. We have three children. Our twins (boy/girl) who are 15 and then a son who will turn 9 soon.
