It's been four months now since my aunt passed. I just wondered if i could put the poem I wrote for her funeral on here. I miss her very very much. This is it.

A mum, an aunt, a sister, a friend,
a daughter, a granny the list has no end
An open home, and heart and mind
and open arms we'd always find
A hearty laugh and ready smile
Happy to sit and talk a while
Time for everyone, young and old
Helping others, a heart of gold
And remember her parties? some crazy nights
ladies tied to a handle by the toes of their tights
Men going home with one shoe less
Where the other one went was anyone's guess
The star of the show, our Dancing Queen
High heels and glitter, she stole the scene
But home with her grandchildren was what she loved best
With them in her heart she felt truly blessed
On her knees on the carpet with paper and paint
Love, understanding and the patience of a saint
Family gatherings, coffee with friends
University courses, the list never ends
Walking for miles, even chasing the deer
Firing the shotgun to bring in the New Year
Some sound advice, a helping hand
A cup of tea and a Blue Riband
The world today is a sadder place
without your happy, smiling face
Forgive us if we have a wee cry
Now the time has come to say goodbye
We'll keep you in our hearts forever
Remember you always, forget you never.

Lass, that was a very wonderful tribute to your aunt! How nice to have been so close to her. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful tribute.

So nice. How old was your aunt?

Lass,

Wonderful work. I could picture her in those activities.

Is it possible to get a picture of her and blending her picture in the background with the type well defined. Framed and given as gifts? (My Grandmother wrote about her father being a lamplighter in Germany and one of my aunts took a picture of her as a child and her poem blended, framed and gifted to each family member.)

Your work needs to be displayed for your family to see. Your aunt was an incredible woman. And you are highly talented!

Thank you all for your kind words. Toto, that is a good idea, I'll see what I can do. The family all have a copy of my poem but blending it with photographs sounds nicer. Her son read the poem out at her funeral. Cervus, my aunt was a young, fun-loving 68 years old. She never let this disease get her down, she was still giving the "thumbs up" and smiling just an hour before she slept peacefully away.
Thank you all, again.

I am so moved by your poem and feel like I know her. So lovingly written and moving....thank you
for sharing!

Lovely sentiments, what a nice tribute!
