Ok. You asked for it...
My PALS had a dr appt today to get a trache change. Ok- this is pretty routine as we go in every 2-3 months for this. I dropped my daughter off at school early so I could get over to him earlier than usual. His appt is always at 11 am. I dont usually have him out of bed until 11 so I have to go at super warp speed when dr appt's come up.
So Im going along... start from the top and work my way down. UGH... thought so... Aparently he had a BM in the middle of the night and didnt even know it (he's had a touch of a stomach bug for the last few weeks). Needless to say, he was RAW. I mean bloody raw. So I do my best to get it all cleaned up without wasting too much time.
Ok so we get him up and into his PWC. Get his battery hooked up. Put the little black bag over his urine bag. Hook up his travel oxygen. tie his head down, straps, buckles, all of that. Go out to move the van into place.... click click click.
She wont even try to turn over. Completely dead. GREAT. I go back in the house and there stands his mom and there sits my PALS all ready to go and i tell them the van is dead. Keep in mind we now have a half hour to get to the dr and we live 15 minutes away. and we still have to load him into and strap him down in the van. Right away I think we cant go. Which sucks because he is WAY past due for a new trache and hasnt been feeling well because of it.
Someone decides I need to jump it. Never did that before. But PALS tells me just what to do. So i take his ma's car and line it up. get it all ready, and WHAT? apparently this car is too new because i cannot find the battery! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
so i pull my car up. wham bam thank you ma'am. got the van fired up.
got PALS loaded and on our way. then his moms cell phone rings. its the dr.. "where are you guys?" we are trying!
got him there 15 minutes late is all.
Trache change went well. He felt better immediately. We got outta there and since he hadnt been out of the house since January, decided to make a day out of it. He showed me where him and his last girlfriend lived. And then I took him and his mom to my old neighborhoods. We spent most of the day in the car, but it was still great.
So after all of this CRAP... i gotta say, I had a tremendous day! I was so proud that I was still able to get him there in time. I was even more proud that he taught me how to successfully jump a car. ( I know its super easy, but i had never done it before)
We had a good time just driving and talking and living life. Usually outtings are very stressful. it was, dont get me wrong. i am exhausted. but the overall feeling is just awesome peace. Feels good to be coming out of my few year funk.
Thanks for letting me spew. Love to all.
