Come For Tea

BTW, is anyone else sick of 24/7 coverage on the big wedding? Is there anything else in the world going on that they could possibly look at? I do have a little interest in this, but NOT 24/7...

Actually, I have zip interest. I block it from my brain quite effectively, although that may be more a brain function problem than an accomplishment. Wonder what's happening in Japan? Libya? Just a few things I should go look into.

that's a good idea to type up the posts in another program and just paste them in... that way, if you're responding to several people you can also scroll around if needed, without losing the post you're working on. Thanks Ann!

Helen, I just use my drafts folder in my emails and "save". You are right about the need to remember to respond to earlier posts, however. If you use the "Go Advanced" you can also scroll down the page to read prior posts.

Thanks for the support everyone. I need that encouragement to do things for myself. Helen, love the wit! And I see the Christian thread is back! Weddings. Not so very long ago a cousin came by with photos of her wedding. She showed mum all 1000 of them & complimented her on being the first one to look through them all. I didn't like to tell her she had a captive audience who couldn't do too much about it!

Good Afternoon Ladies, (Lindsay's typing for me today)
I have missed you all tremendously this past week. I had so much reading to do! My trip to MD was enjoyable. Thanks for all the prayers for James and his family. I mean what are the odds of running head on into a relative. Thankfully, he will recover quite quickly. His Aunt on the other hand will be slow going. His big truck and safety belt saved his life! Her car went under his truck and she suffered a compound fracture of the arm and broken leg. Will be unable to walk for 3 months. Two years ago I had a dream of James being killed on that road with a tractor trailer and his mother wouldn't let Courtney particpate in the funeral. (The two don't get along at all.)
But enough of that, Dianne, what are we going to do with you? Are we going to have to hog-tie you so you stop falling?
Avril, I am glad you were able to spen some time alone! So, tell us what did you do?
Have to run (LOL), will be back later!
Missed you girls, Love ya's, Kimberly

Ok...why have I never visited this thread before? Look what I have been missing! May I join the tea party please?

AK Mom, I thought you knew about this thread! What kind of tea do you prefer today? I have Chamomile Mint available, along with the awful Dandelion Root that I thought may help me (it it did I'll never know, couldn't drink that stuff!). I'm drinking plain old Salada tea today... My Mom came over for tea a little while ago, and we sat on the front porch listening to the birds sing. Saw a female Cardinal fly by! Not too many of them around here.

My sons' Boy Scout Troop are going to be in Alaska on July 18. They're leaving at 3:00 in the morning, and getting to Seward around 6pm...

Love the chatty thread! Today I am sipping my all time favorite - Constant comment. Trying to focus on the beauty of Spring. Glad to see a lighthearted thread.
Love and light
Meg

I do like mint tea and a special asian tea that I can only get from the chinese restruant around here. They will not sell me any to take home and say its from their family members in china....lol. Otherwise I am a mint mocha kinda girl! So I hope that doesn't disqualify me!...:D

Wet weather here in Alaska today. Lake is still covered in ice but is pretty thin. I saw the first sign of spring yesterday. A flock of white trumpeter swans (about 50 of them) flying low and circling our lake to find a safe place to land. No such luck for them and they flew on. Such a beautiful site. Someday I will have a camera in hand to capture it. But the last two years I just am not fast enough. And this year I happened to be downstairs in our walk in basement with a drywall specialist who was giving me an estamate for repairs. I would have missed them had I not been looking out the window.

Golly gee, you gals have been chatty this morning. I had the dreaded blue screen on the computer monitor this morning so have been tied up getting it fixed. So far, so good! :)

I see our group is growing - we might need a bigger table to gather round.

I have been working on letters to send to special people in my life - a suggestion of the Hospice counselor. It is amazing the friends I've made and are still a part of my life. Makes me feel rich with love. But it also tires me to write to them so have decided to start with family first. At the same time I am looking thru albums to make a virtual scrapbook for my grandkids and am laughing at what I thought fashionable in high school!
What poofy hair I had! LOL

Kathy is making oreo truffles for Tim today. I prefer creamcicles myself. :)

Ann, how was the hospicve spa treatment today? Do you feel pampered or frazzled?

Don't hog tie me, Aly. I have graduated to a gate belt when moving around with my walker and assistance. And staying in bed when alone.

Arvil did you do something fun with some alone time? When hospice told us about respit care. Tim immediately said we won't need it -- then when he thought about it he said he just might some day need a break. I was all for it since the new hospice house in Rapid City has a walk-in bathtub in each room so I could have a bubble bath once more! Its the simple things I miss. :) :)

Joyce and Meg, so glad to see you visiting! I will admit, I'm a coffee drinker...strong and black.

Diane, Phil came over (telecommuting next door today) and instructed my aide on the hoyer lift, how *he* showers me (naked and inside the curtain, lol--he forgot to include that bit) and basically gave her too many instructions for her first day. She isn't savvy about ALS and hadn't used a hoyer in years--most of her patients are ambulatory. I am still baffled by that...this is hospice! Anyway, Phil left, and she showered me with her clothes on from outside the shower. She never remembered to wash my face or feet, and frankly I'm unable to hang onto most thoughts. My hair, which hasn't been trimmed since a year and a half ago, is very long. Her head, however, is shaved. One of us is confused and I know I'm the one.

No spa treatment for today, but on Friday we'll skip the hair wash and see if she clips fingernails. I'm presently in bed, and have learned that I actually can be rolled over with the draw pad and not have pain. Eureka!

Phil has been reading his new Mediterranean cookbooks and since he likes anchovies, thinks I need to develop a taste for them. I may be creating a monster here. We'll see how much time and energy he really wants to commit to food.

Hi all-- teatime has passed here, and DH Roy is sitting with a beer trying to figure out how to reverse the new door handle he bought for me so it "looks better". It works fine and I love the lever style compared to the doorknobs. Daughter Irina, mechanically minded, would rather help him than figure out how to cook the tilapia filets he brought home for supper. Any bets on when we'll eat? No complaints- it's nice to hear them working together. AND it is finally warming up! Maybe I'll pour myself a little something while I'm waiting...
My blood draw yesterday had my liver function #s back down to normal, which is great news for my dexpramipexole trial screening on Friday. Hopeful!
Always nice to see new friends around the tea table.
Ann, I laughed at your description of getting showered. Will hope your helper is a quick learner.
And I love anchovies-- in moderation.
Have a nice evening, everyone!
Sue

Sue you really like anchovies? We are going to be eating some raw oysters, and scallops tomorrow night..yea! Diane sounds like a wonderful idea writing those letters. Seems like the lady that cooks for yall sure cooks pretty good!Ann now you need to tell the new lady to wash your face first, and your feet last. Joyce welcome and I bet the swan were beautiful:0Meg what are you sipping?

Lovely to meet the new tea drinkers. Welcome to the table. Just back from a little night visit to the hospice. Poor nurse thought she'd broken the bipap machine and called me so I went in to take a look. Not quite sure when I became the go to gal on bipaps but all is well. Glad she felt she could call me. Dianne, walk in bubble baths sound just great. Go for it! Ann, glad your aide stayed on the other side of the shower all the same. Even better that the draw pad works for you. I wonder if that's what we call a sliding sheet here? I would be absolutely lost without mine. Sue, the new handles and team work sound great.

Momofsixkids-what did I do for myself today? Don't laugh now...I walked to the shops & bought some moisturiser for my dry face, then sat in the sun for a bit. All the other stuff I did was catch up stuff. Have to ease into this treating myself thing. Glad to hear there'll be recovery after the car crash even if it will be slower for your aunt.

Oh yeah, am beginning to see what ye mean about the wedding. Up until today only the British or American channels we get had programs about it. Tonight one of the homegrown channels has jumped in on the act. I think I heard them say that the security alone will cost 2 million pounds. Caught myself thinking, could we find an als answer for that money or feed those who are starving. Anyway, it'll all be over by the weekend.

On the food front-am not at all keen on anchovies but speaking of Chinese tea, the most delicious tea I've had was in a Dim Sun (sp?) place in Canada. It was a mixture of jasmine & something else rather lovely. A friend negotiated me through the food & ettiquette involved which was great.

I want to congratulate Sue on her bloodwork, tell Joni that Phil did help me wash my face (this aide and I will get along great, incidentally), tell Sue I love moderate amounts of anchovies--a good amount on Caesar Salad is wonderful. Phil wants them as "the fish" for some meals. I say "ick".

Avril, had I a day like yours it would be beyond wonderful. Love to sit in the sun for a while if the temperature is good. I'm just not into weddings as a rule, but as you say, that money is such a lot for a ceremony and a party.

...and I love you all!
