Now I'm not saying that this is by any means a hundred percent, but for those of you really worried about ALS like symptoms I don't think it would hurt to get a buddy and try them out. At the vary least go ahead and get ready to go see a neuro, then maybe get a friend to do these with you once a month, I mean if it's serious business it should get worse right? If you've not no progression in a few months then its REAL doubtful it's ALS right?;-)

I've got a bad feeling about allowing this link. I think all the scared will be doing these tests and come back convinced they have ALS. The problem is having a friend test you is useless because they have no value to assess to your strength and wouldn't remember hoy strong you felt last month. My advice: Don't even go there. It's posted by a worrier. Nuff said.

That makes sense, my only goal here was to give folks something proactive to do in the meantime but I can see how it could also very reasonably throw fuel on the fire. My apologizes.

The more I thought about it and reading more of Corey's posts, there is just no way I want the misery that link would cause to our members having everyone trying those tests and being convinced they have ALS because Yahoo says they must have it. Don't like doing it but it would give the worry warts more ammo.

My neuro has been treating ALS for 25 years and it took 18 months to come out an say I have ALS.

Wording was inappropriate I guess, like I stated though I wasn't trying to say that this little article held in its power more than any guy with a 8 year med degree. I just figured it would help folks with their anxiety about things, at least untill they could go through proper channels. But yeah, your right it could just as easily have folks second geussing themselves, messing up once and then flipping out, or something far worse. I dunno, I wanted to help out if I could and not just ***** an moan you know?

There's only one question in the best home ALS test. No buddies necessary. No strange physical contortions necessary. No late-night clicking on WWW links necessary.

--> What does your neurologist say? <--

If your symptoms aren't serious enough for you to ask your family doctor about them it's doubtful that you have anything more than annoyances going on. Otherwise, why are you waiting?

If you haven't convinced your family practice doctor enough to get a neuro referral, you almost certainly don't have it.

If your neuro says you don't have it, believe him.

And if your "neurologist" is Dr. G88gle (or any other Web MD), the answer is worth what you paid for it.

This post reminds me of our other "concerned" high school warrior.

Someone trolling to pick up attention.

Trolling implies a need or want to start things with people, and I apologized. No sir, no troll here.

If I left my friends up to diagnosing me they would come back with 42 zany things I'm dying from since birth up to and including every time my mother spanked me. Hell, they all have depression, bi-polar, panic disorders and every other possible thing they've ever seen on Opra. I wouldn't be to shocked if they have fingernails growing out of their ears too.
I'll leave the diagnosing up to my doc who sends me to specialist whose offices are 23 blocks through a maze of secret tunnels in the hospital that takes a staff of highly skilled direction finders to find. No wonder I miss so many appointments.
