Rx is in hand. We're getting a PWC! Now just have to contact the facilities in our plan who provide these beauties and choose a model that's right for current and future needs. Hopefully it won't be too overwhelming process.

I just ordered mine and the salesman brought 3 different chairs to try. He explained pros and cons and I tried them - so fun! I considered terrain to go over, controls -second set in back. I got the one with the smallest turn radius I have a small space. I chose a Quantum 6000.
Kris:)

The process has been easy enough, but the waiting has been very tough for me.

my husband has a permobile 300 and he loves it.

Just J,
Try to get an equip. specialist at your facility who understands the progression of ALS and will supply your PWC with those functions.
I requested a Roho seat cushion and really like it.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I also didn't realize someone could come to the house with the models. That is excellent since it is very difficult to get my husband out. Can anyone comment on the time it my take from order to delivery?

It is strongly dependent on what your coverage is. I have Aetna, and the average wait for approval is two or three months, then of course a few weeks to actually get it. You can sometimes get a loaner chair in the meantime, but that depends on the vendor.

I ordered my chair toward the end of July and had it the first week of September. My ALS clinic hooked me up with the equipment guy and they handled all the paperwork. We discussed the features I needed (great to have the ALS OT there for that conversation!) and then they brought two out to my house for me to try. It will make a HUGE, positive difference in your life! Good luck!

P.S. Judie I see you are in MD...our vendor was Chesapeake Rehab in Baltimore and they were great to work with!

Hi Jennifer. As a matter of fact Chesapeake Rehab contacted me today. A rep is coming to our home next Wednesday. They said they could fast track this because of ALS but not sure how fast that is. Mike has not been seen by PT or OT...(they did mention this today). He was only recently referred to the ALS clinic at Johns Hopkins. Our first appt with them is in April.

Hi Judie, hope your experience at the Hopkins clinic will be as positive as ours has been. Good luck with the chair! Jennifer

Order process is underway. Mike just needs evaluation by PT which we should have done by this time next week. The company we are working with Chesapeake Rehab has been awesome thus far and so has Aetna! (so very thankful for my wonderful job and the insurance I get through them...can't put a price on that!).

Chesapeake rehab gave me a host of other numbers and people who can help with lifts, ramps, overhead lifts, etc. We also ordered some kind of chair that will help Mike get into the shower with no trouble at all. We have a large shower but it is not quite walk in, has shower doors, but no tub. I can't wait for the chair to come so Mike can engage in life again! I feel like a kid at Christmas. So very happy :)

Oh, by the way, we were told that as of January this year MDA is no longer funding wheel chairs. We are going to be paying about $2500 out of pocket and MDA may have helped with that had they not changed their policy.

And the waiting begins. All paperwork submitted to insurance yesterday. They will take up to 30 days to respond, then another 4 weeks to complete the chair. We may have this thing by June 1 (still seems like a loooooong wait).

Doing the HAPPY DANCE for you and Mike! HAPPY HUGS!

The pwc is in and ready for delivery! Hurray! We may be getting it as early as tonight. Awaiting a return call. Life is good.
