This morning my daughter and I went to a local private prepatory school's book fair. And this isn't just any book fair. People come from neighboring states and some are in line as early as 5:00 A.M. to get in when the door opens at 8. We got there at 7:15. It was 31 degrees, but it wasn't too bad, I've been there when it was much colder or in the rain. I figured up that I have gone 19 times. I first went in 1987 and have only missed 3 times, once for a funeral, once because I had the stomach flu, and the last time was right after I had my hysterectomy. So this morning, I couldn't help but wonder how many years I can go. The isles aren't very wide and I haven't seen very many people there in wheelchairs, but I suppose it could be done. My daughter is a voracious reader and is a big James Patterson fan. And she isn't the kind of reader that reads a book once. She reads the ones she likes over and over. So this book fair has saved me a great amount of money. They also have DVDs, CDs, and all kinds of really nice 'garage sale' things. One year I bought a limited edition print of an artist I like, G. Harvey, at their silent auction for about a quarter of the original list price. My nine year old had a basketball game this afternoon. He has played soccer and tennis, but I think that basketball is something that he can excel at. He is the child who is most like me. Not only does he look like me, but we have many of the same interests. We watched Doctor Who tonight on BBC America. I have always loved British TV and Clark is the one who enjoys that program, and even likes to watch my DVDs of Inspector Morse, which is my favorite British TV show of all time, with me.
