January 28, 2008

January 28 always makes me think of the Space Shuttle Challenger. I was an intern teacher in a sixth grade science class the day of the disaster. My next door neighbor at the time, a high-school teacher here in Tulsa, was one of the four finalists to be the teacher in space. One week from today I will be at The Methodist Hospital in Houston at their Neurological Institute. My prayer is that I will get a correct diagnosis of whatever condition I have. If it is ALS or something else, I would love to leave there with at least a 'probable' if Dr. Appel can't give me a diagnosis yet. When I leave school in a few minutes I'm going to my neurologist's office to get a letter to apply for sick leave donations from other teachers in my school system. My principal has already promised to donate me several days. She also insisted that I take off this Friday too, after my boys have their tonsillectomy. She knew they would need their mommy. That way their dad, who is self-employed, can go to work on Friday. It is so wonderful to have a boss who is so understanding. Just one of the many blessings in my life!
