CytRx Phase IIa Clinical Trial Update

April 04, 2006

Cytrx is a biopharmaceutical company that focuses on developing and commercializing medications for human benefit.

Cytrx announced the enrollment completion of 84 patients in the first clinical trial with its lead product candidate arimoclomol for the treatment for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

About This Drug Trial

CytRx's multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase IIa trial is being conducted at 10 centers across America. Patients receive either placebo (a sugar capsule) or one of three dose levels of arimoclomol capsules three times daily, for a period of 3 months (12 weeks). This trial is being performed along FDA regulations and is intented to test safety and tolerability.

Phase IIb

While CytRx's Phase IIb efficacy trial is still in the planning stages, it is expected to include a minimum of 300 ALS patients recruited from 25 clinical sites in America, and is anticipated to take approximately a year and a half to complete.

Arimoclomol is one of CytRx's three orally administered, small molecule compounds. This small molecule drug candidate is believed to function by stimulating a normal cellular protein repair pathway through the activation of molecular chaperones. Since damaged proteins are thought to play a role in many diseases, CytRx believes that activation of molecular chaperones could have therapeutic value for individuals suffering from amyotrophic lateral scelerosis.
